With the changing landscape of remote work due to COVID-19, we saw an opportunity to convert the existing garage into a dedicated studio space, designed to meet our specific needs and maximise our property to provide additional utility to our modern mid-century family home.

The office was designed to accommodate two workstations, a meeting space, storage, workshop, and office supply storage, while still retaining access to the swimming pool area. The result is a thoughtfully designed and functional office space that blends seamlessly with the existing structure while providing the necessary storage and amenities for our remote ‘work from home’ needs.

The design features are carefully curated to create a functional and visually appealing workspace. One of the key considerations in our layout is the placement of desks away from direct sunlight, glare, and visual distractions, ensuring a conducive environment for focused work and collaborative workflow. The interior of the space is intentionally kept light in contrast to the dark exterior, creating a pleasing visual contrast that adds depth and interest to the overall design.

With a ceiling height of 2.1m due to the existing structure, we used a banded colour border to create the illusion of a taller room. The lighting design is simple yet focused, highlighting key work areas and creating a comfortable ambiance. Custom colours, including a blue hue tone for accent walls and floors, add vibrancy while maintaining a calming atmosphere. Cabinetry colours are derived from the main entry poster, creating vibrant and modern work environment aesthetic.

Hidden storage is located behind a wall panel at the entry, ensuring the space is kept organized. Circular floor treatments made from recycled materials add a sustainable touch to the design.

Custom storage solutions cater to specific needs, maximizing functionality. Our studio interior promotes productivity with a well-balanced colour palette, clever lighting, hidden storage, and sustainable elements. With a layout conducive to collaborative workflow and a design that balances modern and mid-century influences, our workspace is both functional and visually appealing.
